The Home Made Weed Control Recipe:

  • 1 Gallon White Vinegar (Pickling if possible)
  • 1 oz Orange Oil (Zeps - Home Depot or Lowes)
  • 1-2 Drops Joy Liquid Dishsoap
  • Mix Slowly and use in a sprayer for weeds. Spray of weeds in the hottest time of the day

Water

  • Outdoor potted plants twice a day.
  • Deeply and infrequently.

Prune

  • Shrubs and trees need dead and damaged wood removed.
  • Blackberries' new growth to a 3 foot height to enhance side branching after harvesting.

Fertilize

  • Use organic fertilizer on all planting areas.
  • Apply Texas Greensand to help with iron deficiency, which results in yellowed leaves.
  • Use an organic fertilizer on all potted plants and annual flowers.
  • All plantings and lawns should be sprayed with Extreme Juice every 2 to 4 weeks.

Pest Control

  • Dust with natural diatomaceous earth or release beneficial nematodes for fleas, ticks and chiggers.
  • Spider mites can be controlled with Extreme Juice sprayed every 3 days for a total of 9 days.
  • Release trichogramma wasps for bagworms and other caterpillars. A spray with Bacillus thuringiensis will work also.
  • Garlic-pepper tea or summer weight horticultural oil will remove lace bugs and elm leaf beetles.
  • Use Extreme Juice plus garlic tea for black spots on roses.

Plant

  • Pumpkins for October harvest.
  • Palms and cacti.
  • Start fall tomatoes from seed.
  • Desert trees, shrubs, palms and cacti.
  • Bermuda and St. Augustine lawns.
  • Periwinkle, lantana, cosmos, verbena, portulaca, amaranthus.
  • Tropical colors of hibiscus, pentas, mandevillas, bougainvillea.

Odds 'n Ends

  • Leave clippings on lawn as you mow weekly.
  • Add new matter and turn compost pile.
  • Add mulch to all bare soil.
  • De-thatch your summer lawn if needed.
  • Start harvesting grapes.
